As some of you may know, I spent the first few seasons of college writing for Berkeley’s marvelous independent student newspaper, The Daily Californian. I was an arts writer, and at one point wrote a weekly column (“Painting With Thought”) on the relationship between technology and art. I left the paper around the time I became involved with the co-ops, due to a conflict of interest.
Last week, the outgoing Editor in Chief and Managing Editor invited me to contribute a “Final Thoughts” column to the graduation issue they were putting together, which was very flattering and exciting. I decided to write something on the topic of leadership and group dynamics. After a few nights of struggle and more than one complete re-write, it ran.
I’m pleased to share it: “Leading by not leading”
